Health Minister assures Lebanese on medication supply, cholera preparedness

NNA – Caretaker Minister of Public Health, Dr. Firas Abiad, on Friday assured the Lebanese public that there is no medication shortage in the country and that the situation was under control. He emphasized that there were no new cholera cases reported, apart from a previously announced one, and that the ministry was fully prepared to handle any potential outbreak.

During a press conference in Karantina, Abiad provided detailed insights into the existing stock of medications, particularly for chronic diseases, which can last four to five months.

Moreover, the Health Minister highlighted the ongoing importation efforts, facilitated by Middle East Airlines prioritizing health needs.

Abiad also addressed concerns regarding cancer medication, clarifying that the number of cancer patients receiving treatment is around 10,000, significantly lower than reported. He confirmed the presence of adequate stocks and ongoing distribution efforts, particularly for displaced individuals.

The Health Minister finally reassured the public that the ministry was on high alert for cholera, with vaccination efforts already underway.
