NNA – Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Friday chaired a government emergency committee meeting at the Grand Serail, attended by key ministers, including Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi, Culture Minister Mohammad Wissam al-Mortada, and others.
Discussions focused on Lebanon’s preparations for the upcoming Paris conference on October 24, which will address the country’s humanitarian needs amid the ongoing Israeli aggression.
Environment Minister, Nasser Yassin, outlined the government’s four-point plan for maintaining essential services, emphasizing food security and local support systems.
“We are coordinating with the World Food Programme to ensure daily meals for 200,000 displaced persons,” Yassin stated. Efforts are also underway to provide heating and electricity to shelters, particularly schools now serving as housing centers.
Minister of Industry, Georges Boujikian, highlighted the economic component of the plan, stressing the importance of maintaining Lebanon’s industrial output to support food security and exports, noting that “the continuation of the industrial sector is crucial to keep the economy running.”
Additionally, Mikati met with Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, with whom he discussed diplomatic efforts to halt Israeli escalations and welcomed local officials from the Hasbaya and Arqoub regions to address the humanitarian crisis affecting the displaced.
Mikati also held security talks with Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, with whom he reviewed the military’s needs ahead of the Paris conference.
Although General Aoun will not attend due to the current situation, a detailed report will be presented to secure international support for the army.
Further meetings with General Security Chief Elias Baisari, State Security Director Tony Saliba, and Internal Security Forces Chief Imad Othman centered on Lebanon’s security challenges and the needs of the country's security apparatus.
Mikati also met with MP Simon Abi Ramia, who stressed on emerging Lebanon's sovereign right to negotiate on its behalf, rejecting external interference.
Abi Ramia also praised France’s diplomatic efforts for ceasefire and support for Lebanon’s displaced populations.
The Prime Minister also visited a refugee center run by "Farah al-Ataa," commending local charities for their vital contributions.
