NNA - Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, on Thursday received at Dar Al-Fatwa, the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Janine Hennis-Plasschaert.

 Plasschaert hoped that "the language of fire would stop and that Lebanon would enjoy security, peace and safety by implementing Resolution 1701," and briefed the Mufti on the effortscarried out by the UN in this regard.

For his part, Mufti Derian urged the international community to "rescue Lebanon by pressuring the Zionist entity to cease fire, adopt a diplomatic solution, and implement international resolution 1701to spare the Lebanese people sufferings of killing, destruction, and displacement."

He said: "Lebanon is a sovereign, free, Arab, independent country with no guardianship over it. It has its leaders and officials who are entrusted with its safety, Arab identity, and independence." He stressed his support for the positions of Prime Minister Najib Mikati, "who spares no effort with the government to reach diplomatic solutions that lift the Zionist aggression from Lebanon and its people."
