NNA - The media office of the Iranian President-elect, Masoud Pezeshkian, announced that he received the family of Imam Sayyed Musa al-Sadr, who came to congratulate him following his election as President of the Republic. 

Speaking on behalf of the Sadr family, Mr. Sadr al-Din al-Sadr said to the Iranian president: “Your election has given us hope, for our region and for the cause of Imam al-Sadr.”

In response to the questions posed by Dr. Pezeshkian, the Imam’s son gave the President a brief summary on his expected visit to Russia next week. 

For his part, Pezeshkian said that he “got to know Imam al-Sadr and his ideas when he was still a university student, and that he was greatly influenced by his teachings,” considering that “Imam al-Sadr is a model of the religious scholar that we need in our time, not only in Lebanon or Iran, but also in the region and the world.”

The Iranian President also expressed his sympathy for the Imam's case and his willingness to provide any possible assistance in this regard.

The meeting was described as a "family-friendly" with talks centering on the role of Imam al-Sadr as a reformer and jurist who was able to devise solutions to many of the challenges in the region, which we can benefit from in our current days.
