NNA - Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, met in New York with UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, with whom he discussed pressing security concerns in Lebanon and the region. During the meeting, the Secretary-General expressed grave concern regarding recent security developments in Lebanon, including ongoing exchanges of fire across the Blue Line and the potential risk of a regional conflagration.

The discussions underscored the critical importance of implementing Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006), focusing on the role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in maintaining stability in the area. The Secretary-General and Prime Minister Mikati also addressed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Lebanon, emphasizing the need for international support and cooperation.

In a series of high-level meetings, Mikati engaged with UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to discuss the situation in Lebanon, emphasizing the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and a resolution to the ongoing conflict.

Mikati thanked Britain for its efforts to halt Israeli aggression.

The PM also met with European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, who highlighted the serious situation in southern Lebanon and called for an immediate ceasefire to enable a diplomatic solution in line with UN resolutions.

Von der Leyen affirmed continued support for the Lebanese people affected by the conflict.

Additionally, Mikati spoke with French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, about ongoing French efforts for a ceasefire, stating that "we can still avoid war," and announced plans to visit Lebanon for further discussions.

Finally, Mikati expressed gratitude to Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, for the Hashemite Kingdom's support for Lebanon and welcomed a delegation from the American Task Force for Lebanon, led by Ambassador Edward Gabriel.
